Intrigued by the idea of secret worlds pulsing and thriving beyond our awareness, Lia McKnight’s work reveals a sense of magic in the natural world. By combining recognisable objects with the unreal or imagined, she draws out their uncanny and erotic qualities, giving agency to these previously inanimate objects.
Lia’s work draws inspiration from the natural world to explore themes of life, death, sex and magic. Her darkly humorous objects appear like mental maps to a strange and erotic terrain where suppressed desires and fears emerge as eerie dreamscapes. Informed by concepts of transformation and the interconnectedness of all things, her work speculates on the nature of being by referring to the everyday alchemy of growth and decay.
The ceramic elements for this work were created during a 2 week intensive porcelain workshop run by Juz Kitson
